When I started this painting, I had no idea where it would lead me. As soon as I painted the background color, the woman in the green dress appeared, and she is a representation of myself as a young woman. I didn't know who I was, and sadly didn't recognize my strength and potential for creativity. The embryo is symbolic of rebirthing, and the nautilus represents the stages each one of us passes through life. The lady is the red dress is Mother Mary as she has been with me since childhood, and she has been my protector as evidenced by the embrace of the young child. The lady in blue is my guardian angel who is always present in my life. She is my guide and protector. She always makes herself present with the appearance of a feather. The swan appeared in a dream, and I held on to its neck and we flew viewing the landscape of my life. The rabbit and hare also came to me in a dream, and I chose to show them playing, and the smoky blue color represents my subconscious mind. The women in the background represent my ancestors--my mother and aunts who were my teachers. I also chose to cut the lineage of ancestral superstitions and abuse. The celestial stars and the blue sky represent my spirituality. The symbology shown in the painting is about transformation, strength and guidance.
